About Dr. Ochoa-Maya, M.D.
Once upon a time, doctors took the time to talk to their patients about not only the symptoms that brought them to the office, but also what was going on in their lives. How were things at home, what was worrying them, were they sleeping alright, eating well? In today’s assembly-line medical environment, that old school touch has been lost. Most doctor-patient visits last less than 6 minutes; hardly time enough to list symptoms much less diagnose and treat them. For Dr. Margarita Ochoa-Maya, this wasn’t the way to practice medicine.
“I am a very caring, nurturing person,” states Dr. Ochoa-Maya. “Breaking free of the medical system mandates and becoming the doctor I want to be, practicing medicine that treats the whole patient is something I’m very proud of. My peers pressured me to keep doing assembly line medicine, but I chose to follow what I believe in. I believe in supporting and helping people, in taking the time with my patients to understand their concerns and help them. That’s how I practice medicine today and my patients appreciate it.”
Dr. Ochoa-Maya specializes in Endocrinology and practices new medicine the old-school way—with compassion, concern, and a true interest in her patients. “The practice is very unique,” explains Dr. Ochoa-Maya, “and my staff is amazing. Several patients drive an average of two and a half hours to see us. Most of our patients are other medical professionals or their family members; 95% are women. Almost all of our patients are referrals from other patients or other doctors. We spend an hour with each patient. We discuss all aspects of their lives—what they eat, how they sleep, their mood, their relationships, self-confidence, their sexual health. I love my patients and I’m very committed to helping them become as healthy as they can be. We believe in practicing traditional values with a contemporary approach.”
Dr. Margarita Ochoa-Maya started her solo practice in Endocrine Health during1999, moving to Nashua, NH about two years ago. Describing her facilities, Dr. Ochoa-Maya says, “We have our own building. One side of the building is the lab and medical offices; the other side is our MediSpa. While our waiting room is comfortable and relaxed and our MediSpa has a soothing, calming atmosphere which is very relaxing, don’t be surprised. We make things happen here. We offer comprehensive solutions for women and we deliver treatment in a very sensitive and caring manner.”
Sensitivity and caring are second nature to Dr. Ochoa-Maya. When she was about four years old, she became very ill and was hospitalized. When the doctor gave her an IV, she was scared. Margarita’s grandmother came to visit and gave her a children’s doctor kit to help her feel better, just as her own doctor was helping her. This simple gift made her less afraid and gave Dr. Ochoa-Maya a new perspective. The once frightened four-year old decided on the spot that she would someday become a doctor. When she was thirteen years old, she helped her father deliver her baby brother because there wasn’t enough time to get her mother to the hospital. A few years later, Margarita was awarded a scholarship to study Internal Medicine at the Boston Medical Center.
Dr. Margarita Ochoa-Maya, a native of Colombia, graduated from “Instituto de Ciencia de la Salud, CES.” She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Boston City Hospital which is affiliated with Boston Medical Center. She became Board Certified in Internal Medicine. She then completed fellowship training in Hypertension, Endocrinology and Metabolism at Brigham and Women’s Hospital which is affiliated with Harvard Medical School. She also became Board Certified in Endocrinology and Metabolism.
“As a doctor,” comments Ochoa-Maya, “I look at my patients as whole-beings, to understand all the things that affect them so that we can help them achieve health and wellbeing. There is a psychological impact to health, to having positive self-esteem and self-confidence. For women to feel beautiful, to not be self-conscious during intimacy, that’s very important. ThermiVa® fits perfectly with what we do, it helps women feel beautiful inside and out.”
For many women, childbirth and the natural aging process cause changes which may affect feminine wellness. A particularly strenuous vaginal childbirth, or multiple births, can cause stretching of the vagina. The effects of menopause can also cause physical and functional changes, such as excessive dryness. Both conditions can rob women (and their partners) of their sense of well-being and happiness.
ThermiVa is a state-of-the-art, temperature controlled radiofrequency treatment which helps women reclaim, restore and revive their well-being. It is an ideal treatment modality for many of the intimate problems plaguing premenopausal and menopausal women. Many women, especially breast cancer survivors, are not candidates for hormonal based treatments. ThermiVa provides a non-hormonal treatment modality with excellent results. This treatment produces results which are immediately apparent, with little risk, no pain, and no recovery downtime. The ThermiVa treatment is non-surgical and is performed in office eliminating the need to go to a surgery center or hospital. While significant benefits are experienced after a single treatment, a series of three treatments over the course of three months is recommended to achieve optimum results. There is no longer any reason to suffer in silence when help is available. Women can now reclaim, restore and revive their intimate wellness with ThermiVa.
“With ThermiVa, there is no downtime and no pain,” adds Dr. Ochoa-Maya. “The results are immediate and our patients are very happy with their results. One of my patients came to me for ThermiVa treatment thirteen weeks after a very complicated delivery. She was concerned because after having the baby because her body wasn’t the same; she was concerned about laxity. After ThermiVa, her confidence was restored and she felt so much better! ThermiVa is making a difference in women’s lives. Women may not know what they are missing until after treatment. This treatment can make a huge impact for them.”
In addition to feeling good on the inside, women want to look their best. Through the years, our face and body begin to reveal the signs of aging. Although there is a wide spectrum of cosmetic solutions focused on reversing these signs, patients increasingly gravitate towards those solutions that deliver real results without surgery. ThermiSmooth® Face is one such solution. It is a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment which uses gentle heat to precisely and safely promote dermal remodeling. Patients often say this painless rejuvenation treatment feels like a warm massage. ThermiSmooth Face targets problem areas around the eyes, mouth, cheeks and neck, stimulating collagen remodeling with absolutely no downtime. A series of three to six treatments spaced two weeks apart is recommended for the best results.
Dr. Ochoa-Maya adds, “We also offer medical weight management, and many of our patients experience laxity following weight loss. We use ThermiSmooth Face to target areas of the face and to improve their appearance. It’s very exciting to see the results.”
